HONOLULU - In order to broaden its reach to fans worldwide, theUniversity of Hawai'i Athletics Department has entered the online worldof social networking with the launch of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTubepages.

UH's Facebook and Twitter accounts will feature up-to-the-minute postsabout its 19 intercollegiate sports programs. All of the department'svideo content featured on its website HawaiiAthletics.com, includingthe popular "H-Files" and "Coaches Corner" segments, will be posted onits YouTube channel and on Facebook. UH's Facebook page will alsofeature photo galleries. Twitter users will receive score updates,promotional activities, press releases and recaps.
UH's media relations, marketing, and ticket offices will coordinateall department postings on these social networks. However, due to NCAAregulations, representatives from UH's athletics department can'tengage in communication on these forums. UH employees can't respond onthe "Wall" on our Facebook page or "Text Comments" on YouTube. Inaddition, UH has deactivated the feature on Twitter allowing users topost comments on our site.
Facebook is the largest social network and ranks asthe fifth most popular website in the world. It allows its users tojoin networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region toconnect and interact with other people. People can also add friends andsend them messages, and update their personal profiles to notifyfriends about themselves.
Twitter, the third-largest social network with sixmillion users, is a micro-blogging service that enables its users tosend and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which aretext-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates aredisplayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users whohave signed up to receive them.
YouTube is a video sharing website where users can upload, view, and share video clips.
