Q:How has your husband becoming the new head football coach changed your lives the most?

(HM) It has excelerated the pace of our life quite a bit. We have been able to meet alot of great people througout the state. We are really doing everythig we have always done, just alot more of it. Very Happy

Q: I'm trying to get my wife to your clinic.
Will she be expected to do some actual football drills?

(HM) We're saving that for next year when Ching Field is done. Wink

Q: Would you please tell the folks here a little bit about the Aug. 19 clinic — who should go, and why, and what will be covered? I think football can seem a bit overwhelming for some women, so maybe you can talk about the benefits of learning more about the game.

Thanks!

(HM) We would like to invite all women and girls to join us Tuesday, August 19 at 7:00 pm at the Stan Sheriff Center for our Hawaii Wahine Football Clinic. Check in is at 6:00 pm at Gate A. There is a $10 fee and we will provide a fun evening where they can relax and learn some basic information. I will tell a little about our life as a coaching family, our coaching staff and their wives will be there, our coaches will give some insight to the game, we will provide a playbook explaining the basics and we will have a great "girls night out" while the guys stay at home and take care of the kids.

You don't need to know anything about football to come. Just sit back and relax and we'll take care of the rest. You'll see why we're all so happy with our new Undermour uniforms as well as how coaches prepare the team for games.

Q: What are your recollections of living in Florida as far as how hot and humid folks are saying it will be in the Swamp on Aug 30?

(HM) There is no doubt it will be hot and humid in the Swamp, but our staff is doing a good job of preparing the team by hydrating them and keeping practices at a fast pace so they will be in great shape by August 30.

Q: Heather, I think UH fans would like to hear about what the McMackin household is like on game day. Can you enlighten us about whether the coach and you have any traditions, superstitions, special meals or good-luck charms or customs, etc.?

(HM) Everything revolves around Game Day in our family. We prepare all week and on Game Day Greg and the team and staff travel to the stadium together on the bus as they stay in a hotel the night before.

My daughter, Shannon, my grandchildre Kayla and Taylor and I go out to the stadium early and get inside as soon as possible. We like to watch the teams warm up. We do get nervous and have our own goofy traditions about what we wear and so on. It's an exciting but stressful time for us. Now that Taylor is older, he will ride on the bus with the team and be down on the field part of the time.

Over the years I have learned that I DO NOT COOK ON GAME DAY!

Q: Heather, do you think the head coach's wife should have certain responsibilities? Meaning responsibilities to the team or the community, even to support your husband as coach. How do you see your role?

(HM) Coaches wives always have an important role in the community and with the University and the supporters of the program. They need to be able to handle the homefront because the coaches work 7 days a week and long hours for half the year. I see my role to be by Greg's side whenever he needs me. I enjoy community activities and support anything dealing with children.
